Reviews
Consumer GuideNew Car Test DriveMost Liked
Fine balance of softness, composure.
Comparison
...assembly quality, materials no longer easily outpace those of like-priced rivals. It's no longer the hands-down class leader in refinement, room, or interior ambiance.
Least Liked
...simulated panic stops induced noticeable nosedive. Touring uses same tires as other models, but firmer suspension registers some pavement imperfections other Avalons ignore.
New York TimesMost Liked
The Avalon interior is remarkably clean and uncluttered. Rear legroom is particularly generous with three-across seating facilitated by elimination of the rear hump.We quickly discovered the Avalon is the kind of car that will never annoy you, a car best characterized by the absence of noise, vibration or harshness.
One Liner
...with just a few well-defined design strokes, the new Avalon manages to project more character, more contemporary energy than ever before.
The Car ConnectionOne Liner
...the newest model offers as many surprises as watching reruns of the Weather Channel.
Model ReviewsOne Liner
Any more airbags and the Avalon could be used as a flotation device. It's a handsome car even if it's not particularly memorable - more Lyle Waggoner than Robert Redford.
Most Liked
The engine is spooky smooth, velvety in its power delivery, and dang near silent in operation while the transmission's ratios seem perfectly chosen. ...the V6 can barely be heard while idling and is glassy-smooth across the rev band.
Comparison
The Avalon ultimately drives a lot like, well, a Lexus ES330... only bigger and more powerful.
The Avalon is Toyotas flagship passenger car, with quality craftsmanship and smooth handling that make it a desirable choice among full-size sedans. The front-wheel drive Avalon is available in three trim levels: XL, XLS and Limited. All are powered by a 268-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. The XL trim is well-equipped, with 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control and a six-disc CD changer. The XLS trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a power moonroof and leather upholstery, while Limited trims are further outfitted with heated/ventilated front seats and an upgraded audio system. Standard safety features on all trims include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, vehicle stability and traction control systems, front side-impact airbags, overhead curtain airbags for front and rear occupants, a driver-side knee airbag and active anti-whiplash front head restraints. The Toyota Avalon carries over unchanged for 2010.
